Temple Astrolog: Working on Love

Venus, the planet most associated with love, is now in the sign of Capricorn (responsibilities, structure) and there she is not so comfortable. People born with Venus in Capricorn can be romantic, but perhaps not in the classical way. They show their love by creating structure and safety: making sure all the bills are paid in time, that the car is always full of gas and the pension fund is alright. Talking about feelings and singing love serenades is not really their thing. People born with Venus in this placement can feel like they have to preform and be of service to others to be worthy of love.

On a collective plane this means that the love life can be a little dry for all of us. Even the most romantic person can feel like the colors of the rainbow are pale right now. What we all can do is to take our own responsibility (Capricorn) to spread the love (Venus). Don’t wait for your partner to give the first compliment or your friends to smile first. Spread the love and happiness!. Like one of my teachers said to me: “Fake it ’til you make it. Happiness is contagious “

A vision of pink

Pink is a very important color in all stages of life. It’s about the ability to love oneself. It works on the root chakra, the heart chakra, and the crown chakra and connects the three of them. Pink is also called “the big releaser” and can release stagnant energies. Tests have shown that aggressive interns calm down in rooms painted in pink. Wearing the color pink, using pink gemstones, and buying pink flowers are ways to spread love around us.

Love me as I am

Right now Venus is joined by Saturn (blockages, restriction) who also belongs in the sign of Capricorn, making it extra strong. People born with Venus/Saturn connections in their charts have to work extra-hard on loving themselves. They often feel like they have to be perfect, forever young and flawless, to be worthy of love.

The crazy thing is that many of the people having these aspects are considered beautiful. Many of them are top models, artists, actors, and can be seen on the covers of magazines. But it doesn’t matter what the people from the outside are saying, if we cannot love ourselves and feel that we are worthy of love on the inside. Like so many things having to do with Saturn (time) this is a aspect that is often inherited in the family tree.

Venus and Saturn can also create a difficult relationship with food and nourishment. It’s not uncommon with anorexia or bulimia. If you have experience of this, or if someone close to you has, this is a time to be extra careful. No need for panic, but keep an eye open, and be loving towards yourself. Ask for support when you need it. If you work as a counsellor or health coach, issues about love and nutrition may be extra important right now.

What we can do to support people right now, not just people with this placement, is to give compliments, love, and support based on who they are, not what they do or perform.

Getting ready for love

Now it is the perfect time to work (Saturn and Capricorn) on your love life (Venus) if you are up for it. I do believe we can work on our love life in the same way as we can work on prosperity or our health. Perhaps all we need is an extra dosage of bravery when working on love as it touches some of our deepest aspects of ourselves. Christopher Penczak’s book The Witch’s Heart is a wonderful companion guiding you step by step in the labyrinth of love. Laurie Cabot’s book Love Magick is another lovely book.

Perhaps the biggest love magick of all is to never stop believing in the power of Love.

Blessings!

The Path of Making and Unmaking

by Christopher Penczak, edited by Tina Whittle

I was recently asked a question that sparked a greater reflection within me, one I have perhaps always intuitively known, but not necessarily expressed before. It started someone asked if they could take classes and participate in the Temple of Witchcraft, a question I get often and still find surprising. As much as I love the romance of the secret society, we are nonetheless a public organization, with many open events and applications with set policies. While I prefer the idea of the romance of the past—the image of the old Witch in the hut or the secret knock to be admitted to the lodge—I think the transparency of the present and the future are vitally important. I do believe in a magickal world, and that while perhaps Witchcraft is not for everyone, magick can be, and one of the many roles of the Witch is to be of service to the greater community if that is your path.

With this transparency come things that can often be a drag—policy documents, record keeping, board meetings, and the like—but these are necessary if we want to have resources to support traditions that will not disappear with the retirement or death of charismatic leaders and wealthy patrons. I know many a covenstead, temple, or Witch House that was abruptly removed from community because there was no shared responsibility in its ownership and maintenance. So we work in the legal structures of the world at hand until those structures change, or our society does, creating our own internal patterns that support the spirit of what we do as Witches while operating in the world of the overculture.

However, what my questioner was specifically asking was if they could participate in the Temple of Witchcraft as a practicing Hellenic Polytheist. “Of course,” I answered, as we are open to everyone. We have had students who began their journey as questioning Christians and who never gave up their personal Christianity. We have had others start rooted in all sorts of previous traditions and religions, from formal magickal initiations to mainstream religious groups. People often ask if they can maintain membership in two traditions, and I explain that we have no problem with it as long as their other tradition does not. If you are joining a certain level of training, we require you to do the training to the best of your ability, and time commitments or personal conflicts with another group or tradition are not valid excuses to not do the required work here, but if you can work it out, we are fine with it. While some traditions do require you to either break from, or take a sabbatical from, other groups and traditions—and over the years, there are moments where I truly see the wisdom in that—we are a tradition of self-determination and self-responsibility. You must make the best decision for yourself around your spiritual commitments and groups. I do, however, find wisdom in rooting yourself in one and then exploring, as starting too many new things at once is often not productive in the long run.

I began as a questioning agnostic, and probably a bit of an asshole, never satisfied with the answer, the exact sort of student a teacher like myself shudders to see coming. Nonetheless, I have a certain level of compassion and understanding for those troublesome students, since that was where I once was. So I certainly can’t tell anyone who is coming for training in the traditions I’ve helped co-create that any specific statement of belief or a professed Witchcraft identity is required. I didn’t have it. Unlike when I began, when there was much less availability of information, teachers, and community, today I often see very versed students, at least academically, and my goal as a teacher is not the introduction of outlandish concepts such as magick, spirits, and the ancient gods, but the encouragement of a beginner’s open mind to experience rather than expectation. New teachings will often challenge both your skills and your preconceived notions. Otherwise, you are simply training to affirm what you already know.

We often say the Temple of Witchcraft is a tradition of technique, and not of belief. Though we enjoy the legal status of a religion as we fit the government definition, at heart we are an order of occultists seeking the mystery of consciousness and relationship with spirits before maintaining any creed. We explore and serve a community in order to better experience and test our theories. You can have a pretense of peace and tranquility alone in your room, but when it’s challenged in the cauldron of community, you really see how evolved your consciousness has or hasn’t become. The community becomes both mirror and mentor.

Part of the world of the occultist is the continual evaluation, revaluation, and refinement of our ideas based upon our experience. We see Witchcraft as an art, with creative expression, as well as a religion that builds relationships with the gods, land, and people, but to the occultist, it is a science. Having too strong of an attachment to a belief system or identity, including that of the Witch, can hinder evolution. We obviously need words, ideas, and images to communicate, but as one enters the mystical realm more deeply and encounters direct experiences of consciousness and the spirit, one often opens up to greater possibilities and broader definitions of self and others, including the identity of the world “Witch” itself.

Recently it was reported to me, ironically at a Pagan Pride where different groups should be coming together, that one particular culturally specific Pagan group was disparaging Wiccans and Witches because they “felt nothing” at those rituals, so therefore those groups were not valid. They believed their own rituals had power and feeling, so this cultural deconstructionist group pronounced them “valid,” forgetting the key words: “…for them.” As we attune to currents, we feel them, and those currents we do not resonate with will not carry the same energetic charge. I know when I’ve participated in that specific group’s rituals, I didn’t particularly feel much, as they were simple drinking ceremonies. I am, however, very moved by Witches dancing in a circle, which could equally be critiqued as simple dancing ceremonies.

Therefore the occultist tries to seek the mechanism behind all such phenomena. Our Craft and Order transcends the idea of any one religion, for while we magically work with and honor the gods, we are actually interested in the power behind the powers, to commune with the gods on such a level that we can look at their eyes behind the mask and perhaps see who and what is found there. We are seeking the gods who made the gods we know.

Occult teachings will often break you down, unravelling the pattern for you to see the parts. We seek not only what is behind the masks of the gods, but behind the many layers of our own masks, to find the god within. Our heads are cracked open to new possibilities of the universe and the self. Our own image of ourselves and how the world works often changes. Our hearts are cracked open, and our wounds from childhood and adulthood are exposed to be examined and healed. And for some, even our bodies are cracked open as we become teachers through illness and injury, through pain and pleasure, and we explore the link between thought, feeling, and health. Mystery schools offer a path of purification, of unmaking, returning you to a place of potential.

Occult teaching encourages you to remake yourself, your self-image, your identity, for some even your very name, from that place of potential. We take responsibility. We claim power. We balance in love and in wisdom. We learn. We do. We become. We are made by ourselves at the same time as we are unmade. This is the path of unmaking and making that the Witch walks, the left and the right hand, the crooked road of being and non-being, standing between. Our balance is cyclical and processional, not static and eternal, but our source is found in the eternity behind the process as we experience it.

And with that I grow concerned for my Hellenic Polytheist. The Greeks and Romans were not always predisposed well to the Witchcraft of their time. If the experience of the mystery leads away from the hard polytheism of reconstructionism into the softer occult monism of ceremonial magick, alchemy, and modern Witchcraft, what will you do? If the gods and spirits of another non-Greek culture come knocking, will they be welcomed? Will you see the parallels of world wisdom between your ancient theurgists and the mystics of other times and places, and if so, how will that change your practice, your worldview, your identity as a Hellenic Polytheist? Some can hold onto many strands at once, in paradox. Others learn synthesis. Yet more give up one for the other. Many of our Christian Witches and colorful agnostics who are not willing to be open to change leave us, and many stay because they can hold many things as truths, without a need forthetruth. Both are good.

Sometimes when we step through the gate of mystery, we need to be willing to look at, and often release, our attachment to our certainty of how things will be for us. We can’t be certain of anything, in occult philosophy or in life. Things can change in a moment, without any notice. Acceptance of that leads us to the possibility of releasing our attachment to our identity, or at least our sense of it, to be open to how we shall change. Who I was when I began my occult path is nothing like who I am today. Even esoteric ideas I had about being a Witch, about my astrological sign and chart, my gender and orientation, have all been challenged over the years, giving a greater sense of how my essence is expressed. On the deepest level, we must be willing to let go of everything to gain everything, as that is ultimately what we all do anyway. Unmaking is like death, a letting go of who we were. Remaking is like rebirth, a becoming of something new. The training on the path helps prepare us for it, doing it consciously in life so that we may do it consciously in death, the heart of the deepest mysteries.

Spells for a Better World: Grateful Blessings

We at the Temple of Witchcraft have been looking for ways to do outreach so our distant members can feel connected to the greater work of the Temple. The Pisces ministry presents a full moon circle here at the Temple’s home in Salem, New Hampshire, every month. This year our focus for those moon circles is spell work. We were inspired to produce some spells that will be used at the Temple full moons and make them available to all our initiates and friends to join us. Each of spell has the intention of creating a better world for us all. You may feel free to join us as is appropriate for your own circumstances. You might join us for all of them or just a few. We hope you will take us up on the opportunity to join in on the Great Work.

Since we are doing spells, each one may require you to get supplies ready to cast the spell with us. All the supplies for the next month are listed in the postscript of the month before to give you time to acquire any necessary supplies. We have attempted to make them as simple, but still effective, as possible to make these available to the most people.

We will also be working with the thirteen goals of the witch in person and also in our journals throughout the lunar month. We will provide some journal prompts for you if you want to join in.

Virgo Full Moon

Goal of the witch: To know your Craft.

  • What area sparks your passion for the Craft?
  • Is there something you want to learn more about when it comes to that area?
  • What are you learning now about the Craft?
  • What practices are you doing to lead you deeper into knowledge of your Craft?
  • Is there anything you feel you should know better? Are you actively working on learning it?
  • What are your strengths when it comes to the Craft?
  • What are areas where you could be stronger? What are you going to do to get stronger in that area?

Powder of Grateful Blessings

Gratitude is magnetic. When we are grateful for things, we draw more of what we are grateful for. This powder is designed to be a charged offering of gratitude to give blessings to the forces for which we are grateful. You can use it as an offering to the spirits and know it will have very little environmental impact. Use a sprinkle of it in all of your rituals of gratitude and blessing.

You will need dried lavender flowers, rose petals, lemon balm, and corn meal. The herbs are done in equal parts except corn meal, which should be three parts, equal to the rest of the herbs.

Take the oil you use for blessings and anoint a blue candle, charging it for energizing the powder of grateful blessings. Set the candle on your altar to energize the herbs and corn meal as you work. Light the candle and begin the creation of the powder.

Take your mortar and pestle and grind one part lavender flower into a dust as you charge it to bring the blessings of peace and harmony. Give thanks for any blessings of peace and harmony you have or are experiencing over the mortar and pestle. Add the one part rose petals, charging them for opening the way to sacred mysteries and bringing blessings of love. Give thanks for any blessings of the sacred mysteries and blessings of love. Add one part dried lemon balm, calling on its associations with Jupiter, bringing mercy and blessings to those in need. Give thanks in your own words for all the times you got what you needed in times of need, when people were kind to you, or you felt mercy towards others.

When all three herbs have been ground to a powder, mix in the three parts of corn meal. Charge the corn meal to bring nurturing and renewal. Give thanks over the corn meal for any time you have felt nurtured and have felt renewed. Grind until they are all combined. Charge the whole mixture to give blessings in response to gratitude. Project a cone of power into the mixture with the release words of “grateful blessings.” Leave on the altar until the candle has fully burned down.

After the ritual, take some of this mixture out into the world and spread it with your thanks to the spirits, nature, the gods, and all others in your sacred power places! The gratitude will draw blessings to them all. For as we bless so are we blessed.

Blessed be!

Virgo lead minister

Post script: For the next full moon’s spell you will need some art supplies: pens, markers, sharpies, a piece of parchment or favorite paper, your burning pot, and a fire-safe place to burn.

Temple Astrolog: Aries, the god of war and emotional freedom

For some time, we have all been dealing with a lot of emotional stuff. Not just new things, but some really old emotional patterns. If we trace them back there is a big chance we will find them in our family tree.

Uranus (revolution) in the sign of Aries (the warrior) has asked us to be brave, be bold, and make changes, but he is in opposition to the asteroid of Pallas Athene in Libra. She’s a warrior too, but also a strategic and when she is in Libra, she is very civilized and concerned about appearance and social codes. So, we are pulled between wanting freedom above all, and the understanding of that everything comes at a price.

Uranus is saying, “smash it, burn down the house, throw all the things I don’t want away” and Pallas Athene politely replies “what would the world look like if everyone just did the things they wanted to do? What world would we have then?” She is also saying “be clever, be smart, and think ahead.”

Pallas Athena in Libra is an excellent chess player, not only because she can read the game, but because she can read the other player. This is great, but what if the price for playing and winning the game is your own emotional freedom?

To make things even more complicated (or should we say interesting?) the nodes of the moon are also involved. Uranus and Mars in Aries are making a square to the north node in Cancer and the south in Capricorn. They are all together in a grand cross with Pallas Athene in Libra. The nodes are connected to karma, were we come from and what we should be aiming for. When the south node (the past) is in Capricorn and the north is in Cancer, we must find new solutions. We need to think and act in a new way, not just for ourselves, but for the generations and families to come after us.

When we add all the pieces together, it becomes clear whatever drama we are in right now, it didn’t start with us, and it will not end with us, but we have the power to change what happens next.

Look into your ancestral tree and see if the dilemma you are in right now, is the same or a similar dilemma your parents had. The choices that are before you, how are they connected to your ancestors?

With this knowledge comes the understanding that the change you make is also a change for the ancestors behind you and the generations to come before you. If one person changes the family pattern, everything changes in the tree and in the web that connects us all.

In working with family dynamics, we see this over and over again. Family patterns repeat themselves. But there is also great magic involved here. Because as soon as someone breaks the pattern, the whole family has a chance to get free.

We all need a red Porsche from time to time

Sometimes the planet Mars is like a red Porsche. It comes in, speeds things up and gets it over with. Now Mars is moving in like a race-car and will pass Uranus in Aries and create a lot of fire and put the pressure on. If you are struggling with a standstill this is great news, because the energy of Mars will force things to move ahead. When Mars is in his own sign, Aries, nothing is stopping him! Mars transiting Uranus is at it’s peak around the 13th of February until around the 22nd and ends around the 1st of March.

For magickal people this is a good time to make medicine for rebellion, courage, speed and action.

Cutting cords

This is an excellent time to cut cords and attachments to things, people, and places that are holding you back. As I mentioned before, Uranus and Mars in Aries can be brutal, but if we can find the balance and power from Pallas Athene it has the possibility to not only be a clear cut, it can also be elegant and made in beauty. The goddess Pallas Athene is the goddess of Wisdom and Justice, and one of her symbols is the owl. If you need extra support during a confrontation you can use the symbol of an owl and bring it with you. If you need extra power and the bravery of Mars, use the color red, and if you need to feel the power of moving on, why not take a test drive in a red Porsche and let the winds of change blow through your hair?

Blessings!

Temple Astrolog: Dancing in the dark

We have a new moon in Aquarius, wonderful for new beginnings and Mercury the planet of communication in the same sign, so we should all be chatting to each other with enthusiasm and making plans for projects together but…something probably feels a bit off. Something is not like it “should” be. Some feel it like a nagging sensation in the stomach, some like the beginning of a storm. What’s going on then? The answer is Lilith Black Moon. She was making turbulence with Vesta (devotion) a few weeks ago, and now she is up for a close encounter with both the Sun (personality, self) and Mercury (communication) in the sign of Aquarius.

Wherever Lilith Black moon is positioned she creates a blind spot, a corner where we have no vision and we are most likely to get things wrong, or a distorted picture. It’s like a combination of Mercury retrograde and void course of moon at the same time. You are blindfolded in that area. So, what can you do? How can you learn to dance in the dark?

By relaxing and moving your attention inwards, things start to happen. By trusting your body and allowing it to open to new senses you will be surprised how well you can do. You don’t need to have your eyes open to dance. You really don’t. Your body knows what to do. Perhaps you’ll find that you’re dancing with your heart for the first time? This is the gift of Lilith Black Moon. Learning to “see” with all your senses. Trusting them to show you what you need to know.

What did you say again?

As Lilith Black Moon touches Mercury we will all have problems with communication, saying the wrong things and hearing the wrong things. We are also more easily fooled by fake news or scams. So, whenever things feel a bit off, close your eyes, center, and trust your senses. Even if you can’t get the whole picture, you will get enough to steer you away from trouble. This transit with Mercury and Lilith Black Moon is most intense from the 4th of February until the 7th and it ends around the 10th. If you feel like anything is wrong in any type of communication, don’t hesitate to go back and get it right. Mercury also rules friendships, brothers, sisters, and neighbors and it is so sad if you lose a good friend or ally because of a misunderstanding.

Who, me?

Now to complicate things further, Lilith Black Moon is having a meeting with the Sun (the self) as well. This means that from around the 2nd of February until around the 18th, we cannot trust ourselves either! Or rather, we cannot trust the picture, or outer idea we have about ourselves. Once again, the key and the solution is to turn our attention inwards. To use what you “know and feel” about yourself instead of what is projected upon you from others. My advice is to meditate a lot. Focus more on the inner work than the outer.

Shamanic detox of the false mirror and a Beauty makeover

Venus has just moved into the sign of Capricorn. Together with the Lillith Black Moon transit it is the perfect timing for a Shamanic detox of the false mirror or false self-image.

First, set your intention of doing the detox and decide how long you want to do it: 3, 5 or perhaps 7 days, depending on how much time you have available. This is also much more fun if you can get your friends and family to do it together with you, perhaps over the weekend.

Then remove or cover all mirrors in your home or where you are staying. All of them. And of course, no selfies, no pictures taken, no staring into windows or mirrors in public places to catch a glimpse of your reflection or things like that. Believe me, it gets tempting after a few days of trying to do your makeup or of shaving without a mirror. Of course, if you can, why not go for the “all-natural look” for a few days?

If you want to go deeper into this ceremony you can use a pink candle, or black if you really want to dive in, and anoint it with rose essential oil (self-love, mysteries). Or you can buy roses, remove some petals and put them around the candle (surrounding it with love and beauty)

When you light the candle, ask Lilith Black Moon to “reveal and show your true beauty” and ask it to be “done in beauty” as well. Let the candle burn as much as possible during the detox. Remember to never leave a candle burning unattended!

After the amount of time you chose for the fast has passed, take a look in the mirror. Take a deep look into your eyes and say hello to your true self. Do this for a minimum of 9 minutes and no longer than 13.

This is one of my all-time favorite ceremonies. It’s a wonderful way of connecting to your inner beauty and your soul’s wisdom. All of my students and friends who have done it have been glowing from inside afterwards. I also believe that when we take back the power of seeing with our hearts, our lives not only become richer, they are also prolonged because we use less energy seeing the truth than holding on to false images.

I hope that you will enjoy it!

Blessings!

Temple Astrolog: Get ready to fly again

Hurray! The asteroid Ceres (nurturing) has just moved away from the sign of Scorpio (drama) and entered into the sign of Sagittarius (vision, higher perspective). For those of you who have felt weighed down lately by all sorts of drama, this can feel like winning the lottery! Finally there is air under our wings and you can feel like you can have discussions with people again without having it end badly. In politics and the media, it will be easier to work together despite differences.

Ceres in Sagittarius finds nurturing by learning new things and exploring new territory. So look for interesting new classes to take, they may change your life more than you know. This is also an excellent time for traveling, especially abroad, and learning about different cultures and traditions. This is amplified by Mercury which left Capricorn and entered Aquarius on January 25th. There Mercury is happy to make new friends and work beyond borders and limitations.

Ceres will be in Sagittarius until the middle of November, so there is a lot of time to make travel plans and sign up for interesting classes.

Don’t reveal things to soon

The now happy Mercury in Aquarius cannot always be trusted to keep secrets. If there is a “win” for them by revealing something, they may do so and they may not even see anything wrong with it. Right now the Sun in Aquarius is passing next to and over Mercury so this impulse is even stronger. So, if you are working on a project that is sensitive, or if you have a “secret” you don’t want to reveal too soon, keep that secret close to you. Even people who usually don’t gossip or tell secrets may not be able to help themselves at this time.

If you happen to be a investigative journalist or a detective of some sort, this can be very fortunate for you as people have a strong tendency to talk to much right now!

Final call

If you haven’t had the time to work with Venus (beauty) together with Jupiter (expansion and luck) yet, now is your last chance to do so before they end their dance this time together in Sagittarius. So all you songwriters, artists, and writers make space for being creative these final days. Perhaps you can catch a lucky star! Venus and Jupiter split up and go their separate ways February 1st.

Blessings!

Temple Astrolog: Supermoon, total lunar eclipse, and a blood moon

A “supermoon” appear larger and brighter than a regular full moon. Supermoons occur when the moon is at the closest point to earth. The moon will also appear red, and because of that it is called a “blood moon.”

It is said that a solar eclipse is a big change for the leaders of the world (we had that on January 6th) and that a lunar eclipse is a change for the people. One of the things so interesting with this full moon and eclipse is that the sign of Leo is also associated with leadership and fame. This is a lunar eclipse that may have a strong effect on famous and public people. In fact, we may all need to be extra careful with what gets posted on social media!

There is a lot of energy being released this full moon as the Sun also moves into the sign of Aquarius on January 20th, leaving the density of Capricorn behind. If you have felt weighed down lately this may feel like a big relief.

This is the last total lunar eclipse until May 26, 2021.

Sudden and unexpected outbursts

This full moon makes a square to Uranus in Aries and the asteroid Pallas Athene in Libra and that creates unpredictable energy. Uranus is rebellion, Aries is a warrior, and Pallas Athene sure knows how to win a fight! Together with a full moon and lunar moon anything can happen, not just on a personal level, but also globally.

Beware of cruel behavior

Mars in Aries is making a square to Saturn in Capricorn and that is associated with a strong will, but also with cruelty. We also have Pluto (violence) “in bed” with Mercury (communication) and the south node (the past, karma) in Capricorn. So we all have to be careful with how we communicate right now. If we are not, we may live out a very old karma of mental manipulation and cruelty. We also have to be aware of this in what is going in our environment. If you are working with helping abused people, you can have a very intense period right now. On the bright side, as this things comes up from “the underworld” (Pluto) they are no longer hidden. The truth can be revealed and old wounds healed.

As magickal people now is a good time to make “medicine” against violence and cruelty, specially mental and verbal abuse. If this has happened to you in some way, take extra good care of yourself and surround yourself with loving and supportive people this full moon. Perhaps this is not the best fullmoon to spend alone.

Mercury will leave this company around January 28th.

A flame of hope

There is a great flame of hope. Jupiter and Venus, both looked upon as “lucky stars” are joined in Sagittarius, only one degree apart. We can use this energy and work for peace and harmony. We can also work for a higher understanding and knowledge. If you are a teacher or a student or just simply want to tap into the energy of knowledge and wisdom, the best time for this is between the 22nd and 24th of January. This transit ends around February 1st.

Holding a light for others

This is not an easy full moon to navigate, but in difficult times we also are given a chance to practice the lessons we have learned and the wisdom we have gained. Perhaps the best way to use it is to be a beacon of light for others to navigate by in tough waters.

Blessings!

Spells for a Better World: Inspiring Solutions

Leo Full Moon

Goal of the witch: Celebrate life

  • What are you thankful for in your life right now?
  • How do you celebrate the life you have been given?
  • Imagine the people you have lost in your life. What lessons have they taught you? How do you celebrate their lives?
  • Think about how you have a finite amount of time on this Earth. What would you like to accomplish and how can you bring joy and celebration to every step?
  • List some of the people you love in your life. How can you show them how much you celebrate them?

Inspiring Solutions to World Problems Candle Spell

Gather a white candle, an anointing oil for solutions such as van van, crown of success, or any oil aligned with solutions or inspiration. If you don’t have any fancy oils, bless some olive oil calling on the goddess of wisdom, Athena, for inspiration. Create your sacred space and call on your own goddess or god of wisdom, solutions, or inspiration.

Anoint the candle while visualizing people being inspired to solve world problems. Charge the candle to bring about inspired solutions for the world’s problems. Light the candle and say this charm three times. With the end of the third recitation send it out as a cone of power.

Lady of the healing light
Fill us with your grace
Inspire solutions to every plight
To save the world and human race
Epiphanies to make things right
Inventions and better ways
put solutions in our sight
So we can save the day
For good of all and harming none
So we say this spell is done!

To ground this spell into being, look for inspirations to good works or better ways to be and to implement them.

Blessed be,
Adam Sartwell
Virgo lead minister

Postscript: For next month, you will need some herbs, a blue candle, and a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder. The dried herbs you will need are lavender flower, rose petals, lemon balm, and corn meal.

Temple Astrolog: A difficult passage

There is a big energy building up right now and I believe it is felt by everyone, even those who usually do not describe themselves as sensitive, or tuned into the stars. Right now we have many planets and placements in Capricorn: Saturn, Mercury, Pluto, the Sun, and the south node are all there together. Capricorn is the third of the earth signs and it is usually felt very physically and directly. Because the sign is ruled by Saturn—also called “the great taskmaster”—it is easy to feel overwhelmed by this energy. All the things that you need to do, all unfinished projects and obligations, are piling up now with the demanding energy of Capricorn around every corner.

Carving out a Masterpiece

But there is another side to Capricorn and Saturn as well, and that is the power of manifestation and harvest. If you are ready to put in the hard work that is called for, you can have a great harvest later. It’s like carving out a masterpiece from a big block of stone. So if you are creating something, or working on a project, don’t give up! Keep on working and hold that future masterpiece in your mind. You can do it.

Sometimes Saturn is pictured as “the guardian at the gate” showing you a very tight and narrow door as the only option to go any further. To be able to enter that door and pass through it you have to let go of many of the things you carry with you. If you hold on to them, you will simply not make it to the next level of awareness or stage of your life’s journey.

On a personal and collective plane we are all working on that right now. “What do I need to let go of to be able to proceed to the next step? What old beliefs are hindering me from stepping into the new?” Good news is that we are not alone in this process. To help us we have the north node in Cancer. That gives us love, hope, and support. Cancer is also about family, and the people who support you and who you want to be. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your friends and loved ones during this transit. You may be surprised how much they can help you.

Capricorn and Saturn is also about protection and safety. This is a wonderful time to check out the alarm system around your house. Go over the doors and windows and make sure that they are functioning as they should. Check the tires of your car and the brakes.

Take a look at your insurance policy and make sure everything is in order. Things have a tendency to break apart with these constellations. Everything from bones, backs, and teeth (ruled by Saturn) to cars and machines in the home. The things that we use daily.

For a magickal person this is a perfect time for protection work and recharging the wards around yourself, your home, family, and your car.

When working with protection we also have the opportunity to help others who are in need of protection and safety. Perhaps you will have the chance to become someone’s guardian angel this week?

This energy will build towards the full moon on the 21st of January, when we also will have a Super-Moon, a total lunar eclipse, and a blood moon!

With Saturn (blockages) so close to Mercury (communication) in Capricorn it can be very difficult to communicate in a good way. Instead of talking, try to show how you feel with action instead. Do practical things to show your love and support, and be open to others doing the same thing for you as well. This Saturn/Mercury energy will end around January 18th.

Blessings!

Temple Astrolog: Snow storms and coven meetings

Lilith Black Moon (what we cannot see) is right next to the asteroid Vesta (devotion) in the sign of Aquarius. This means it is really hard to figure out what is going on in the collective right now. Vesta is all about that inner fire and sparkle. Things that we hold close to us and find worthy of both devotion and protection. With this constellation we can get really fiery about how wrong others are, or we can take the other side and feel that everybody else is doing so much better than we are.

But the thing is that we cannot see them, or ourselves, clearly because of Lilith Black Moon. This can cause a lot of tension and turbulence in communities and organizations. It’s a bit like trying to have a coven meeting in the middle of a snow storm. No one sees anything and it’s quite impossible to join hands. My best advice right now is to stay in the warmth of your home, be devoted to your own practice and try to figure things out on your own until the storm passes. Don’t get lost in others’ social media or practises. Things are not what they seem to be right now. This transit is until the end of January and is most intense right now.

There are some beautiful healing energies flowing right now. Chiron (healing) in Pisces is in a grand trine with Ceres (mother, nurturing) in Scorpio and the north node in Cancer. This is a wonderful opportunity for self-care, relaxing, and making good and healthy plans for the future. Together with Venus that has just entered the sign of Sagittarius it is perfect for taking long baths and reading good books.

It’s quite tough out there right now with many planets in Capricorn. Mercury, Saturn, Sun, Pluto, and the south node are all in that sign. So take all the opportunities you have to recharge yourself and your family, you will need it to get through this January. Extra heads up on the Sun passing by Pluto in Capricorn this week. Don’t be over-dramatic, think twice before making any decisions, and drive carefully.

Blessings!
