Children Are Our Future

by Christopher Penczak, edited by Tina Whittle

“Children are our future!” “Enough about the ancestors, what about the children?” “What children’s programming do you offer?” These are all things that have been said to me in the course of my path as a Witchcraft teacher, and I struggle with them.

I am a thoroughly modern Witch steeped in past occultism and mystery. By that, I mean I seek the seemingly impossible squaring of the circle to create open and inclusive community with a voice in the world without sacrificing the mystery and magick in an effort to make it palatable to others. And on most days I feel our community does it well (with the expected bumps and bruises, of course).

I envision a place where children can be raised with Pagan values and understand the spirit of nature. While I don’t have kids myself, I’ve done quite a few child blessing/ Wiccaning ceremonies. I’ve done fewer coming of age rituals and even fewer trainings for those children I’ve blessed. It’s the nature of children to seek separation from parents and find their own path. I do disagree with the Pagan parents who refuse any religion to their children until they come of legal adulthood. I think there is cultural context to the passages of life that are diminished without it, but you can raise a child in a Pagan household without the threat of being cast out for exploring something else, as many of us raised in a Christian context felt growing up. But by its nature, Witchcraft is not for everyone, not even for all of your kids, no matter how many hereditary traditions and grandmother stories you’ve been told.

In an antique store with back issues of Life Magazine, the April 1980 issue jumped out at me. It featured an article entitled “Children of a Hare Krishna Commune,” and reading it, I wondered how many of those children were still Hare Krishna. I am willing to bet very few. And I think that is natural.

I know few children of famous and not-so-famous Witches who carry on the mantle. The spiritual descendants are those of initiation, not blood, those who choose to be there and do the work. Witchcraft in its various form is initiatory. There were traditional age limits not only for legal, but also for magickal purposes. Psychic processes catalyzing too early can be destabilizing for adults, let alone children, though some seem to weather it with grace.

There is a strange paradox in magick of welcome and exclusion simultaneously. We feel a sense of belonging and homecoming, yet not everyone can be in your coven. There are processes to vet people and requirements for educational schools and esoteric orders. Your entry or continuation can be denied. There is no guarantee, and there is no right to advancement deeper into the mysteries if you haven’t done the work or the group determines you incompatible with them. Doesn’t mean you can’t find it elsewhere, just not here.

Initiation can be like rebirth, and there is a recapitulation of childhood that occurs in the process. We undergo the “terrible twos” and a teenage rebellious phase, even when chronologically in midlife. Children are our future, but often the child is you, the rebirth of the androgynous child of light, of hope, of promise, within us all.Yes, support of our physical children is an important part of a growing magickal community expanding from coven-only structures and developing our own culture, but we shouldn’t have expectations of their participation in an initiatory order. Our path is not their path, as any parent soon discovers. I love what our own Temple of Witchcraft’s Children’s Ministry does to support children and parents, but due to the nature of kids growing up, it’s hard to maintain a stable group and program. I’ve loved seeing the Spiral Scouts in our area interweave with various Pagan groups, giving magickal children an option outside the mainstream binary of Girl and Boy Scouts.Often when we plan and have children’s programs, parents are focused on their own magickal experience for the festival and don’t bring children. Some events are not appropriate for children and, being Witchcraft, if the hosts are unsuspecting of that possibility, they might not make it clear in the invites and registration. I know some have a vision of family Wicca where children frolic in and out of the circle, all happiness and joy with no disruption to the Sabbat, but that hasn’t been my experience. I remember one very late night Samhain ritual embodying the descent of the Goddess, and when the Goddess priestess was scourged and dramatically yelled out in the hushed reverent silence that followed, a little girl said, “Mommy I’m scared” very loudly, much to everyone’s amusement, breaking the tension but altering the dramatic nature of the mystery. Perhaps it ultimately served, but I wonder how it affected the child, if the parents were ever able to give context, as I think they were general participants fairly new themselves. The hosts didn’t dream children would be brought to a late night ritual on the descent of the Goddess.

While we can provide a purposeful container for culture, traditions, and values by having events for and welcoming children, most of that will be in the home as parents openly model a magickal life. Sometimes it will be appropriate for children to join larger groups, and sometimes it will not. But we can’t pass awakening and initiation on as easily, nor should we. The contrarian Witch knows the magickal realization might better come from a tradition removed from the parents, as it was for so many of us. Ultimately we must walk the path that calls to us.

Do I Take Solace In My Spiritual Practice?

After my father died my mom and I had a rare conversation about religion that has stuck with me. She said that she wished she had the faith others had because she thought, in troubled times, you could take great solace in your spiritual connection. My thoughts turned to this conversation as I spoke with friends and my students this week. We were all reeling from the impact of grief, the after-effects of the pandemic, and some significant changes, and the one thing they said they had lost focus with was their spiritual practices. My immediate response was “That is all right, you are dealing with a lot, don’t worry, it will come back.” Then, as I drove home my mother’s words came back to me. It had me considering: Do I take solace and refuge in my spiritual practice when things are hard?

The simple answer is: yes, I do. As I examine and unpack it more I notice that my spiritual practice adapts to the holistic circumstances, both internal and external, of my life. I ask myself, “What do I need from my spiritual practice today, this month, this year?” Sometimes my answer is hard core practices when I need a spiritual kick in the tush, initiatory transformative experiences, or just a desire to dive deeper. As I unpack this, these extreme practices are not my go-to when I need solace or refuge. It all depends on whether diving deep into them brings the clarity and focus I need to get through what is going on. I find that strangely I get more “done” when I am in the flow of deeper practice.

When the answer to my question of what I need is solace and refuge, I turn to the simple daily practices or practices that respond to my circumstances. My simplest practice is my altar devotion, which is just lighting my altar candle and saying an invocation of the infinite divine to protect and guide me in my thoughts, words, and deeds to my true will, deepest love, and greatest wisdom. It is the one constant practice for me and I take refuge in its simplicity.

The practices that work with what I need shift with the circumstance. Need guidance, a divination; need peace or alignment, a short meditation; need healing, some reiki or charging water; need protection, anointing with protection potion; need a jolt of energy, make an elixir with my planetary spygerics; need to finish an assignment from a class, do that. In grief, I take a moment to talk out loud to the deceased and offer them some light or a glass of water. Sometimes the practice is just to get on with my day for that is what is needed.

It is up to you to ask yourself these questions and find your own answers. If you need solace and refuge think about why that is? What will offer you the opportunity for that now? Be open to your answers and take action on them, even when the action is inaction.

Temple Astrolog: Am I going Backwards or Forwards?

by Karin Ugander

Right now we are in a period when Lillith Black Moon is working very hard together with us. Not against us, even if it at times can feel like she is doing exactly that. You may feel like things are falling into chaos not just in one area but many. It can be difficult to feel that you are moving forward and making progress. Working with Lillith Black Moon is a bit like working with the Tarot card – The Moon. “It is darkest just before the break of dawn.” When we arrive on the other side of the Moon card and the sun has come up we can see the bigger picture more clearly. So let´s take a look at the stars and see how they may assist us.

Ceres and nourishment on many levels

Ceres is connected to our emotional feeding and nourishment. She asks questions like: How and when do I feel content and happy? When do I feel emotionally hungry? In what situations do I feel that someone has taken my energy?

Right now Ceres is in a challenging aspect to Mars (drive, will ) in the sign of Leo and Jupiter (expansion) in the sign of Pisces. This means that if you are pushing the limits, doing things too fast,  you and the people around you can become totally drained out of energy. Like you have been hit by a train.

Ceres is in good aspects to Pallas Athena and Mercury (both related to communication) and Pluto (transformation). That means that if you instead of rushing ahead, take things slow and communicate (Pallas Athena) everyone will have a chance to integrate and digest (Pluto). No one will become drained of energy and together you can find a good solution. Kindness and patience is the way to go.

If you are sensitive to being in a busy place with lots of other people you may want to work extra on strengthen your energy shields during this transit. You can do this by meditating, wearing protecting jewellery, using crystals, cleansing herbs and sprays. With this Ceres/Mars/Jupiter you may feel more easily invaded by others and energetically drained.

Ceres is in good aspect to Mercury until the 28th of July

Ceres is in good aspect to Pallas Athena until the 29th of July

Ceres is in trine to Pluto until the 3rd of August. Really good for working with plants.

Ceres squares Mars and Jupiter until the 12th of August.

I finally get it

Pluto (transformation, death) in Capricorn (time, challenge) has been in a good aspect to Lillith Black Moon (deep transformation, things we cannot see) for some time. Together they have assisted us with healing deep issues that has been buried for a long time, perhaps through generations or past lives. As they are now about to let go of each other… chances are that we might just “get it!” What it is that we are supposed to “get” can be very individual.

One of my clients worked as a creative director at a theatre. When Lillith Black Moon came in transit to his natal chart his co-workers wanted him to leave his job. They accused him of being not interested in the theatre, that he had lost his fire and they felt that he was very difficult  to work with. According to them, he was not doing his job anymore. My client did not agree, became upset and lawyers became involved. After a lot of turbulence a settlement was made. My client went on with his life and started to pursue his passion in life – writing.

By the time his Lillith Black Moon transit was done, he said that he finally “got it”. He´s co-workers had been right. He was finished with the work on the theatre on many levels, and he should have left many years ago. Now he loved his new life as a writer. He also told me that when he was young his mentor had said to him: “If you ever get a job at the theatre, you hang on to it for life!” On a deep  subconscious level he did not believe that he had a choice to leave the theatre. Then along came Lillith Black Moon and opened up the way.

Exercise with Lillith Black Moon and Pluto

This is an exercise that you can do: Take a blank piece of paper and write at the top of the page: “I finally get that…” and then fill in the blanks. After that you continue with “And the wisdom I have learned is…” and then you fill in that.

It may look like this: “I finally get that…. It´s impossible to be loved by everyone”  And the wisdom I have learned is… I don´t need others approval to be loved”

“I finally get that…. I´m getting older”  And the wisdom I have learned is… It´s a privilege to live to be older. Not everyone has that chance.”

“I finally get that…. My marriage is over”  And the wisdom I have learned is… There is a better chance of us being happy living separate lives”

My suggestion is that you do this not just one time, but a few times. For each time you will get deeper and find more wisdom jewels. Pluto and Lillith Black Moon are the masters of the Underworld after all! So digging deep is the way to go.

When you are finished you may add a few leaves of rose (love) and sage (clarity, purification) to the paper. Fold the paper together and then burn it. You can do this as ceremonially as you feel to do.  Release what has been and embrace what you have learned. Remember to say thank you afterwards. Be open for more insights coming to you the following days.

The trine between Lillith Black Moon and Pluto started at the 17th of April 2021 and will end on the 29th of July.

More Lillith Black Moon

Wherever Lillith Black Moon is active she creates a blind spot, a place where we cannot see clearly with our normal senses. We need to activate our supernatural senses, and even then it is hard to determine the outcome. I usually describe it like driving in a sand- or snowstorm. You need to stay on the road, drive slowly and keep focus on what is right ahead of you. A key point is to continue forward.

Right now Lillith Black Moon is making a challenging aspect to Venus (love and relationships) Mars (willpower) Jupiter (expansion). She is also making a challenging aspect to Juno (relationships) Ceres (nourishment) and the moons nodes (karma, destiny). She is touching many things and this can be very confusing and it is easy to loose navigation, direction and hope.

Trusting the process

Lillith Black Moon is deep and she touches us in places that we did not know existed inside us. This is her challenge, but it is also her gift. The more you try to control the process, the harder it will be. It is much like being in labour. You get through it one breath at a time.

If you wake up in the morning overwhelmed with more than one challenging situation for you to handle, breathe deeply and take one step at a time. If you can´t see the road ahead because of the storm, take care of the 50 meters ahead of you and make them as good as possible. With time this too shall pass.

Lillith Black Moon is in challenging aspect to Venus until 27th of July,

to Mars until 11th of August

to Jupiter until 14th of August

And the moons nodes until the middle of October.

Moments of Love and compassion

Venus, the planet of love is meeting many challenging energies right now. Challenging aspects to Jupiter (expansion, hope) Juno (relationships, alliances) the nodes (karma, destiny). With this energy it is easier to find what is bad and wrong in our relationships, than it is to see what is good. This can make it more difficult to find moments of romance, love and passion. It is easy to fall into the swamp of duties, dishes and laundry, bills that needs to paid and difficult people to manage.

My advice is to be generous with your love and try to find moments for each other in the mist of it all.  Escape for a lunch together, stay up at night just to get to talk, leave the house for a road trip. Give a hug and an extra kiss. Do candles and spells for love and a good flow of peace and harmony. The Venus (love) energy in your life needs some extra support right now. I guarantee you that paying extra attention to the people that you love during this transit will be worth the effort.

A love boost could be great for your friends and support team (Juno) as well. Take the time to connect, send that text, take that “Swedish Fika” and have a heart to heart meeting. Moments of Love and Compassion can make all the difference in the world. After all, Love is what makes the world go round!

With this I wish you a great August and Lammas celebration!

The Astrology Blog will be back again on September the 6th.

The Cultural Souls

by Christopher Penczak, edited by Tina Whittle

Brown and Black Bees by Pixabay via Pexels.com

We have many souls. Our consciousness is a matrix of many selves, some personal and some collective. To be, one level of our awareness has to pass through the collective of our ancestry. Another has to pass through the spirit of the land, and in the larger sense of place, the nation. At one time, in some places, the ancestral and national souls were more closely linked, but today they are different functions. There is the cultural lens of our ancestry and the lens of our land. Likewise a part of us must pass through the spirit of the time, what some might call the zeitgeist soul, that also reveals our generational influences.

The tendencies of the zeitgeist are often revealed through our slowly moving outer planet placements, generational influences that affect us all personally. The continual movement of the outer plants triggers experiences for the older generations interfacing with the new generational forces manifesting.

Today’s astrologers might classify the modern generation by Pluto, with Pluto in Leo = Boomers, Pluto in Virgo/Libra = Gen X, Pluto in Scorpio = Millennials, and Pluto in Sagittarius = Gen Z. A simple start, but Uranus and Neptune also play a role.

While everyone in the planet is dealing with the same outer planet placements and generational waves, they look different in different places. How we express it will also be through the lens of our nation, state, town, and even neighborhood. One in a technologically advanced country will manifest forces differently than one who is not.

The interface, the relationship, between the overall national consciousness with our ethnicity adds another layer to the experience. Are we immigrants? Descendants of slaves? Descendants of colonizers? Indigenous? All have different relationships to the national soul and its power structures.

We are all participating with these levels even if we are not aware of it. They are the background forces of the daily personal experiences, but they shape the world. If we are more conscious, we can choose how we participate in these forces and even choose to resist or reform them into different manifestations.

I think of the radical reshaping of even the last ten to fifteen years. How did I start my day without my phone? What was life like back then? I think of the speed at which everything happens and wonder if it’s a virtue, with the changing attention span more often diminishing despite so much to learn.

It’s no secret I often have critique of some of the cultural changes as they play out in modern magickal community, but in truth every generation has its magickal problems. The key is flowing with and harnessing the patterns that are there, rather than seeking the nostalgia of the past and what is comfortable for your own generation, finding new expressions for cultural forces to draw them away from what you see as harmful or corrupt.

I’m often concerned that the drive for public status and fame will diminish opportunity for magickal attainment in practice, despite so many more magickal educational resources being available. The perfect selfie and the popular “hot take” become more important than the actual practices. Considering all opinions valid, both informed and uninformed, creates a culture where the idea of the actual practice of Witchcraft as a requirement for Witchcraft, rather than the simple declaration or aesthetic alone, becomes a controversial stance.

I observe new forms of tribalism growing strong and just as dangerous as some of the old. The massive spell that is cast, the mesmerism of social media, used to simultaneously inspire and horrify, connect and divide, is a starring act of both technology and well, magick, even if they don’t call it that. I wonder about the ethical and moral duties of the online influencer, and what spiritual responsibility they have when pushing the culture and community in a direction by participating in particular behaviors.

To keep vital, one must participate in the growing culture of the family origin, place, and time. While you can choose to separate from some aspects, they are the world we were born into, and we must deal with its ever-evolving nature. We were born here for a reason and have our work to do. If we are not actively connected in some way, we can’t resist the changes we feel are harmful, speak out, or model new ways and bring forth the wisdom of our generation. If we are still alive generationally, we still have some part to play in the story. But we also have to know when to back off, when we are not the leads in the story. So we find ourselves in a strange dance with our culture as we grow older and face the newer generations. We still have a personal relationship and life, but not a growing framework to relate to the ancestral soul, national soul, and zeitgeist soul. We have a deeper relationship with the collective.

Temple Astrolog: For Better or Worse…

by Karin Ugander

A lot of things are happening in the Relationship Arena right now. That includes our romantic relationship, friendships and our relationship to our soul as well. As we are closing in on an energetic tipping point the air is filled with both anticipation and perhaps some worry. So let´s take a closer look at the stars and see what they can tell us.

Leo –  a proud Partner

Venus and Mars are joined tightly together in the sign of Leo, making relationships and Love in our focus. The sign of mars is often referred to as the sign for Man and the Venus sign is referred to as the sign for Woman, but in reality they are the male and female energies within us that we all have, no matter gender or sexual orientation. We can even say that the feminine energy is the energy that we take in, or that moves more inward being represented by the elements of Earth and Water. The male energy is the energy that we project outward being represented by the elements of Fire and Air.

When Venus and Mars are joined together we feel strongly about our partner and what he or she is going through. And now when they meet each other in a cosmic kiss in the sign of Leo (passion, charisma) it is even stronger. Leos are very proud of everything in their kingdom, their children and of course their partner. If you are together with a Leo you don´t have to wonder if he or she is proud of you. If the Leo was not, you would not be dating anymore. This is a very charming side of them, but it can also be a challenge if it makes them hold on to a relationship with someone whom they do not love any more, but still feels proud of dating or having as a friend.

Help, my partner is having a crisis!

Right now Venus /Mars in Leo is making a challenging aspect to the asteroid Ceres (nurturing, comfort,) in the sign of Taurus (safety, protection) and that can make things shake a bit in a relationship. Perhaps suddenly your partner is going through an unexpected crisis and the ordinary roles turns upside down. The partner that usually is calm and the “don´t worry everything is going to be OK” person could cry their heart out at the dinner table.  And the partner who usually have thousands of solutions to a problem is just empty and does not know what to do.

Now what makes this extra tricky is that when Ceres is challenged in some way it is hard to find nourishment and comfort. It can also be the situation when one partner feels totally drained and overwhelmed by their partners crisis. Perhaps you really want to be there for the one that you love, you just don´t know how, you don´t know what to do, and you feel like you are going down energetically with them. This situation could also apply with other close partnerships. The key is to search for help one step away from the situation and relationship. Ask someone who is not as close, but trustworthy for support. Being a step further away from the situation gives another perspective, and that might just be what is needed to find the right solutions.

Leo has a big heart and a big love and wants everyone to be happy. That is exactly what we want for the people we love. The love and wish for them to be happy all the time, can sometimes create a blind spot and make it hard for us to see our partner objectively in a way that is needed to get the best support and healing. Or to put in in other words “being the therapist or doctor for your partner or family is not always the best thing”. There are some good and capable people out there ready to help. Find them and get the support needed.

Venus moves into the sign of Virgo the 22nd of July. Venus and Mars are joined together until the 25th of July.

Venus is in challenging aspect to Ceres until the 24th of July. Mars until the 12th of August.

One for you and one for your partner

When someone comes to me asking for assistance because of a crisis I usually tell them. “One medicine for you, one medicine for your partner, and one medicine for your relationship” or if it is a child “One medicine for you, One medicine for your child and One medicine for the family” This is because what happens to one member of the constellation effects all the others. Even in the best of relationships it takes on the energy reserve dealing with a crisis. It is easy to forget the partner, the siblings or even the pets in the house. By making medicine, candles or flower essences for the whole household everyone is supported and has the energy to support each other in the process taking place.

Unexpected Allies

Jupiter is considered to be the planet of luck and good fortune. It rules the sign of Saggitarius (knowledge, teacher, philosophy) and the 9th house (higher learning, connections to other countries). Right now Jupiter is in a retrograde motion (seen from the earth it looks like it is going backward) and that makes Jupiter’s energy go more inward and become internalised. Some see this as a bad thing, but that is not necessarily the case. In my line of work, it is something really good. Jupiter retrograde helps us to correct our life compass so it is more aligned to our soul and mission in life. Usually Jupiter has a tendency to move forward with power and great haste. Now, he has time to stop and think for a while. Time to ask important questions and get even more important answers. What is your goal in life? What are you aiming for? (Sagittarius being the Archer) Is it time to set new goals or perhaps take another road?

Right now Jupiter is making a good aspect to Mercury (messenger, connections, friends, information) in the sign of Cancer (helpful, loving, supporting) and that could help you connect with the right information and help that you need. You may be surprised of where the help comes from.

Jupiter is in good aspect to Mercury until the 15th of July

Is it worth the wait?

The older you get, the more you understand how short life is. When you are younger you hear older people talking about it, but it is not until you get older yourself that you kind of get what they are talking about. We don´t get more time and we don´t know how much time that we have in our incarnation.

In life we have some windows when it is possible for us to do things, make new choices, decide to risk our hearts and open up for new adventures. Yet, we have a tendency to postpone happiness and love. I have seen people pray, make potions, do spells use affirmations to get what they really want. But when the opportunity arrived they did not dare to take the risk. Many times with the excuse “I´ll wait until next time, I´ll wait until later” But the hard truth is that later may not come again.

Right now Jupiter (expansion, happiness) with its retrograde motion is asking us some really interesting questions. Here are some examples:

“Why are you waiting until retirement to get a dog? You have wanted it all of your life. You have the time and the means,  but you have decided to wait, why?”

“Why are you waiting for you partner to change and give you the support, joy and happiness that you are waiting for?  Why not make yourself happy?”

“Why are you not getting married when both of you obviously wants to? Is money really that important to create a happy and memorable ( Jupiter)  wedding?”

“Why don´t you make the thing that you love to do the most your main occupation?”

“Why don´t you teach to others the things that you love and know so much about?”

Jupiter is retrograde until the middle of October. But as we have just learned, why wait to ask the important questions until later?

Summary:
Right now many things can happen in our relationships and around the people that we love. A good thing about a crisis is that it forces us to become creative, to let go of our limited perceptions of life and our own incarnation. We are made to see with new eyes and forced to try new things. An unexpected baby can be the best thing ever, being fired can lead to a new career and daring to listen to our hearts can lead to love and great happiness in various shapes and forms.

Perhaps that is what a True Warrior of the Heart is – someone who dares to live life with a fully open heart and who is brave enough to surf the unexpected waves of life.

Take care of each other out there!

Temple Astrolog: A new place in Life

by Karin Ugander

The deepest healing

Right now we have a trine (good aspect) between Pluto (death, transformation, deep healing) in Capricorn (time)  and Lillith black Moon in Taurus (body, self-worth, self-respect).  Together they create a healing so deep that we hardly know that it is occurring. For most people it will be felt like something is just over, but they cannot put their finger on what exactly it is. They just find themselves at a different place in life.

In western society we have a tendency to overanalyse things. To have an understanding about oneself and the process that is going on is good. But, it doesn’t necessarily have to be mental understanding all super analysed and neatly comparted in different files. It can also be a feeling and a knowing in the heart. Some might even say that knowing something in the heart is the most real knowing of all.

For people more conscious of their healing process this could mean that they get a closure and a relief from a situation that has taken some time to process and heal. Suddenly it is seen in another light or just not as important anymore. It could be that you believed that you could never love someone romantically again, and now you find yourself in love again. Or that you felt betrayed by someone and believed that you could never trust anyone again, but here you are with new and close friends again with mutual trust in the relationship.

Conscious or not, Lillith Black Moon and Pluto are doing a deep job and as the energies are released it can be felt very physical in the body (Taurus). If you have the possibility to take a power nap, or an extra meditation during the day, it can make a big positive difference and assist you in both releasing and recharging energy. You may also need to cleanse recharge your crystals and jewellery more often.

Pluto begun it´s good aspect to Lillith Black Moon the 17th of April and lasts until the 30th of July.

Pluto begun it´s good aspect to Vesta the 22nd of June and lasts until the 22nd of July.

This is a good time to make flower essences, potions and incense for deep healing and shadow work.

Partnership and help from Journaling

When we wake up in a new place in life, it can be both surprising and chocking for people next to us. And that is not so strange, because if we were unaware of the process, then probably they have been as well. This is when communication becomes so important. Keep your closest and most important relationships in the loop, even if you haven´t figured everything out yet. Saying something like “ The way I feel about my work is changing” is a good signal. Or, “I´m starting to dream about moving somewhere else, I don´t know what It means but this is happening to me right now” is another one. In many Magickal Traditions journaling is an important tool, and the more you use it the more you understand it´s importance. Writing is a way of distilling your thoughts and emotions and make the path more clear. It also helps to make your communication in your relationships more clear.

Is my communication and understanding of the world updated?

Right now we have Juno (relationships) right next to the South Node (the past karma) in the sign of Saggitarius, the teacher. They are making an opposition to Mercury (communication) and the North node (what we are aiming for) in the sign of Gemini.

This Is a good time to ask if your communication is updated? The way you talk, what you are talking about, is it true and is it up to date? If you have a tendency to fall into talking about your low self-esteem, take a pause and check-in with yourself if that is still true? Do you still have that? Or is that something that you used to have? And is it something that is of importance in the conversation, or do you talk about it out of habit?  Are there other subjects that usually pop up in conversations? Your ex-partner and his/her new life, how tired the kids make you… Is it really true right now? And how does it benefit you or others to talk about it?

This update is extra important if you are a teacher of some kind, have a business or a job where you need to be updated. You don´t want to invest in an expensive CD-player when the world is streaming the music and will continue to do so. Or you don´t want to spend a lot of time making a Moon Calendar when everybody these days are using an app instead, then it is better having a course on learning to use and read the app.

This is also a good time to edit your profile on social media, your contact information, check and clear your calendar, unfollow accounts and make things updated. Letting go of relationships and attachments (Juno conjunct south node) to make the path ahead clear (north node in Gemini ,conjunct mercury)

Juno opposition Mercury ends on the 29th of June and after that is when the “new you” is good to be released. Juno conjunct South node is until 10th of September so we will continue to resolve relationship issues from the past for some more time.

Why are you standing in my Way?

There is some frustration and irritation in the air. Saturn (blockages, stop) in the sign of Aquarius is in opposition to Mars (will, drive, sex) in the fiery sign of Leo. This can be felt like that one minute you are filled with energy and optimism, and the next you feel stuck in the mud, getting nowhere. In a relationship it can jump between “Oh Lala! Take me to bed!” to “Oh my God, the way you eat your sandwich really irritates me!” (Uranus in challenging aspect to Mars). It can be wise to find ways to let go of the extra intensive energy, take a long walk or run in the forest.

This Mars/Saturn aspect can also manifest as a person literally blocking your way. Someone saying No! that cannot be persuaded to move away or let you pass through. This could of course be very frustrating and you could probably fire yourself up (Mars) a lot about this for a long time (Saturn) if you should choose to do so.

What would a mature version of me do?

But, if we look more closely to what is going on with Mars (will, power, directing energy) there are some interesting things to add to the story. Mars is making a trine (good aspect ) to Chiron (healing, shadow work)  indicating that there is a possibility for some good healing taking place. Mars is also in a good aspect to Juno (relationships) in Sagittarius and in good aspects to the Nodes (growth, karma, dharma). This constellation is suggesting that there is a possibility for all of us to mature in the way that we use our will, and in how we are dealing with situations when we feel blocked or limited.

The question is “What would a mature version of me do?” If you have a history of letting others walk all over you, perhaps this is the time to say No. Have stronger boundaries. To stand up for yourself.

If you have a history of screaming, yelling, getting upset and telling the whole world when things don´t go your way, perhaps a new strategy is better this time? Or if you are an expert on not taking any personal responsibility of the situation that you now are in, you could do with some self-reflection about how you ended up here? Key words are maturation, healing and relationships.

Mars good aspects to the nodes are until the 8th of July

Mars Trine (good aspect) Juno is until the 8th of July

Mars opposition (challenging aspect) Saturn is until the 10th of July.

Mars trine  (good aspect) Chiron is until the 12th of July.

Mars square (challenging aspect)  Uranus is until the 13th of July.

To sum this up we have a deeply healing period ahead of us, a chance to update ourselves to hopefully a more mature, complete and integrated version. Processes that has taken a long time can now reach their completion and it is important to give yourself and others some space (sleep?) to integrate this new place in life. When strong healing takes place, turbulence can usually be felt by sensitive people, children and animals. Remember that children and animals cannot choose their environment in the same way as grown up humans can.

Defenders of Atlantis

by Christopher Penczak, edited by Tina Whittle

Nicholas Roerich’s The Last of Atlantis

Something came up in my feed recently on abandoning the myths of Atlantis and Lemuria, an idea that returns every so often in the magickal world. Critiques include the lack of archeological evidence, plus hatred of anything aligned with the New Age and its flawed Victorian worldview. The occultism of Victorian England is both a rich and fertile bed where so much of our teachings arose, and a crossroads of the times where racism, classism, patriarchy, and homophobia can be found. And I understand all of that. I really do. Yet I still defend Atlantis.

Not that Atlantis needs a defender. It’s sunk. It’s a lost cause already. That is the point. That’s part of the magick. But as an occultist, the teaching has served me, and I pass it on because I see how it serves others. I find it ironic today that in the social media world of Witchcraft, many who critique ideas like Atlantis are all about using the Bible in their magick to be more rooted and authentic in their folk traditions. All the critiques of Atlantis through a Victorian lens can equally be charged against the Bible, as Christianity has a pretty long history of violence and abuse. Rather than simply throw something out, I think it’s far more interesting to ask why someone uses something. Why does it have value to you?

As an occultist, I’m interested in consciousness, cosmology, and all the things hidden that most people don’t care about. I’m not looking for religion when I practice Witchcraft, I’m looking to the truth that is obliquely pointed to by the mystery. While I find the creation stories of all mythologies interesting, I want to know what is behind them. None speak to me and satisfy me completely because I don’t live in that place, that time, with that language and context. My world is wider than those things of the past. It’s not that they’re wrong or bad, but in a study of comparative myth, you have to hold a lot of paradoxical mythological truths at once. None are right. All are right. What is “right”? So as a magician, I know the stories are patterns, potentials, ways of expressing inexplicable truth. What is the meta-story behind it? What is the pattern that empowers it? How do we tell new stories today?

Philosophers have always been looking for this. While the ancient Greeks might have their own stories, myths, and cosmologies, many sought to know more by seeking the wisdom of Egypt. Egypt’s high society pointed to the hope of some distant first civilization, an enlightened time when the gods and humans were one with nature. Plato’s original Atlantis is framed in this context. It can be read as a moral parable of the corruption of his time. It can be read as a mystical allegory of consciousness rising and sinking. It can be read as myth of a distant land and forgotten civilization. His telling is fractured and fragmentary, even as our “original,” and we’ve been filling in the pieces ever since, because the idea of a larger story fascinates those of us unsatisfied by what we are taught.

Those who are only moved by archeological evidence and academic acceptance of a theory don’t interest me. If you’ve been doing this long enough, you’ll find science is constantly updating paradigms with new evidence, which is the role of science, but not necessarily the role of the magician seeking myth and folklore. While we will update our magickal paradigms with different results, we know not to build our house solely on today’s scientific understanding, otherwise our magickal paradigm will be dismissed ten or twenty years from now as obsolete while we are purporting a timeless wisdom. Science is one of many lenses. What is the science speaking to in the greater paradigm?

There are tons of theories and data that speak to a variety of interpretations of Atlantis, and all of us Atlantis fans have our favorites, but none are conclusive and accepted by the mainstream, or even amid the majority of mystics. Most evidence or flaws in current paradigms get automatically dismissed as fringe science, yet the whole point of Atlantis—and ancient Egypt, Sumer, and a wide variety of mysterious cultures—is the evidence of advanced civilizations operating in different ways than we do today, so our current measure of civilization might not be the best barometer, and logic alone might not be the best way of solving all questions.

I think back to the dismissal of Troy as a mythology, until it wasn’t. What about the evidence of a Global Maritime Civilization? Perhaps Atlantis wasn’t in any one place but everywhere. That’s why we can’t find it. I think about Gobekli Tepe. How do we fit that technologically advanced blip into our accepted chronology of human history? That discovery alone should be forcing us to reevaluate the origin stories of humanity, but most ignore it. Why do we still teach the old paradigm in school? Because we haven’t fit the new evidence into a new story upon which we can all agree.

Though artistically expressed in different cultural contexts, with different materials, there is some consistent geometry found in ancient temple structures and stone circles. Is this a universal conclusion, a pattern that all ancient humans come to eventually? Or is there some unifying factor to these ancient monuments cutting across the globe and different time periods? There is even some possible evidence of knowledge of the Precession of the Equinoxes in their creation. This greater meta-story provides mythic context for why the world’s ancient sites have so many similarities, with similar mounds, pyramid shapes, and petroglyphs found all over. Being devoted to no single culture alone, it can even hold new information, such as emerging data on the mysterious Denisovans and their influence on the emerging post-flood civilization. The history of the Earth is much weirder than most realize, and our stories help us magicians navigate the currents of power and information. It’s no different than those in Asian mystical traditions, yet they can hold the paradox of modern science and ancient myth a bit better. Although besieged with their own historic problems (and without the rise of Christianity as in the West), they are not in the same inner war with their magickal past. I distinctly remember speaking to a Tibetan Buddhist who could talk about Buddhism being present at the founding of Tibet, and how Buddhism was imported into Tibet from India. He could hold both truths without dissonance.

As an occultist, I have lots of experience with non-material realities. If the lack of archeology dissuades you, then you’ll not want to hear about things such as the reality of fallen angels, ghosts, faeries, past lives, psychic ability, the Witch’s sabbat, gods, goddesses, and actual operative Witchcraft. Yet I know these are realities. Perhaps Atlantis, Lemuria, and the like are operating in these types of frequencies. I find it funny that one could believe in the reality of a goetia demon bound by King Solomon, but find a lost civilization too far out there to be open to the possibility of its existence.

Much of the Theosophical interpretation of these times and ages conflicts with our current views of geology and archeology, much in the same way that the largest interpretation of the Hindu Yugas doesn’t quite fit an earthly time scale, but perhaps one more cosmic. From a Theosophical interpretation, I was taught the Great Ages were a descent into matter by consciousness. One arc descends downward, and the material universe’s evolution, including biological life, ascends upward. Our world now is where the two meet, but they haven’t always. There are literal truths measured by science and mystical truths marked with a different yardstick. You wouldn’t use the criteria of poetry to measure the worth of scientific study of bacteria. Likewise the criteria of science alone on esoteric understanding is flawed.

As a thought form, an egregore, or an occult memory, Atlantis is a living current. Just like when one is not seeking the gods but is nonetheless touched unbidden by their mystery, many seekers, looking for someone else, awaken Atlantis and have profound experiences. Past-life memories in particular are strong and semi-consistent. I’ve had people moved to tears with no previous interest in lost civilizations. I’m personally privy to two systems that use the Atlantis narrative, one Hermetic ceremonial and one very New Age, and I was stunned to find them tell the same story from the antagonistic viewpoints of—another story for the times—the ruling class and the opposing rebels. Wise rulers addressing greed and chaos? Freedom fighters seeking the removal of tyrants? Depends on your side. But the long epoch of Atlantis, from the Golden Age to Fall, shows us in these experiences different ways we could be living, but which, despite all our technological advancements, we are not.

The use of Atlantis in mythos and initiatory tales can be powerful. Often secret societies reveal a secret history, something otherwise not accepted, known, or believed by most. The idea of a hidden, unbroken Witch Cult was the story for some of us, now debunked as a literal truth, but still a profound esoteric truth. If it were not, we couldn’t be practicing it. Shocks that break expectation and paradigm are part of the occult process of transformation, and new revelations bring people together in shared experience. The power lies in the questioning of old assumptions and new teachings, not blind adherence to either.

Yet so many new Witches have not been brought in that way. We therefore have an incredibly large community with very few common points and bonds, and a lot of conflict driven by ego and opinion, not experience or wisdom. There was a time even among fighting Witches that a common bond of Witchcraft could bridge the personal rift. It’s the sister/brotherhood of the ceremonial lodge. Now witness a similar mechanism throughout society, due to a lack of shared story that all are participating in. Even our modern stories are fairly tribal. I look to the myths of the Confederate South fueling a lot of conflict in America and the inability to move beyond it to a bigger inclusive story.

When one looks to the magickal cosmologies and time-keeping practices in ancient cultures, they all speak, in some form, of past ages, past Earths, often characterized by metals, with a previous Golden Age. We have descended from it, and to the mythologist, we do not live in a world of perpetual progress, but one of cycles. In this cycle, there is the hope to return to the Golden Age. It’s not just a return, but an alchemical principle. We were divided and purified and seek to be reunited. The dark ages are necessary in the global story, as much as the dark night of the soul is necessary to the individual, or the alchemical stages of dissolution, putrefaction, and fermentation are necessary to the alchemist. The stories of the ages are filled with destruction scenarios that seem quite alchemical—fire and water. Memories of past terrestrial cataclysms? Or alchemical allegory? Perhaps both, I think. Are they a different way of expressing the Platonic Great Year as embodied by the Precession of the Equinoxes? When you look at history, it’s not hard to see its influence on the rise and fall of the civilizations we know about, so how about those we don’t? Are the poetic interpretations of geological and evolutionary ages the intuitive biological memories of evolution and ice ages? Maybe. Remember, leading-edge natural scientists of antiquity saw dinosaur bone fossils as giants and monsters. When the seer looks back psychically in time without the context of dinosaurs, what shape does that consciousness take? Giants and monsters? Makes sense to me if you have experienced true seership.

For those who look to Plato’s story as a parable against corruption, its reinterpretations are ideally the same, showing we still need the warning against abuses of power. Atlantis is the Shamballa of the West. While Shamballa withdraws from an imperfect world, awaiting the worthy seeker, Atlantis collectively fell, like so many of our western “Fall” myths, and must be collectively redeemed and risen again.

What it does that is helpful to me as an occultist is attempt to codify the meta-story that is global and cosmopolitan. It creates the potential of a narrative that unites, without dismissing the individual cultural stories and traditions. It’s a living document. We keep adding to it and reinterpreting it for the context of our time and traditions.

In a time we can’t name, and a place we can’t really point to, there is a story for us all that we can participate in it. The people there were flawed. Once great, they lost their way. They abused their power. They sunk and destroyed themselves in the imbalance of the Earth. We are reliving their story! How can we, together, write a different ending to it? How can we each play a part in the unfolding tale?

Atlantis, Lemuria, Hyperborea, and Pangaea are a meta-story from which new stories, rooted in old, can help us understand where we are, where we have been, and where we might be going. The previous age was destroyed by the same issues we face today. Before that, an age of the elder race, of the Faery Folk after their arrival to the world, from a unified consciousness to the schism of polarity and gender. Before that, an Earth ruled by giants, titanic forces shaping the Earth. Do these have parallels in the evolution of mineral, vegetable, and animal life? Maybe if we are looking for scientific parallels, but I’m just as comfortable with seemingly alien intelligences of otherworldly beings permeating the planet. This “neutral ground” in myth—not belonging to any one culture and theoretically relating to all with the common myth of the flood—gives us a way to place other myths in a larger paradigm, creating a container that allows for all mythologies simultaneously while holding a context for the modern magician.

The Bible, despite describing a very small territory and a very specific few theologies, has become extrapolated as a global story by so many and for such a long time that it has been deemed infallible, as potential scientific proof. For some, the Garden of Eden wasn’t just in Mesopotamia, but speaks to a state of Edenic consciousness across the world. As the Bible became dismissed by science, we seem to have thrown out our conscious desire for a collective narrative, and I think that is part of what is killing us. The Bible is not the narrative I want. So what narrative has some roots to it, that as a current of energy has been and is being worked on a magickal and psychic level, that can aid a more global consciousness? In the Age of Aquarius, the Age of the Water Bearer, the redemption of a sunken city which embodied utopian ideals, but which abused technology and lost social consciousness is a powerful narrative. The Flood Myth crossed so many cultures and included Judaism and Christianity, but also predates them.

Imagine a world where the default story is of globe-spanning ancients who did not belong to any one place, who did amazing things but also made ghastly mistakes. You don’t have to imagine it entirely as we are also writing it for future generations if we don’t turn our own ways. Imagine the call to redeem them, by our own actions rather than waiting for the return of a savior figure. A magickal myth of actions and consequences. The rising from the waters like a cosmic rebirth, embodying an Aquarian ideal, can be our story of the age if we tell it to ourselves often enough and enact it. This is the true treasure of Atlantis. And that is the Atlantis I defend.

Return to Witch Mountain

mountain

It’s no secret I love the lore of Hexennacht or Walpurgisnacht, the May Day celebration that is more like Samhain than Beltane where Witches gather (in vision?) to the top of the mountain and even journey within it to meet Dame Venus as Faery Queen of the Sabbath! While the May Pole is fun and most of us enjoy a little loving, my heart is the mountain.

The mountain speaks of mystery and secrets. What is at the top? What is within it? Will you encounter the shadows of the Brocken Specter to deter you? Who knows?!? Anything can happen on Hexennacht.

The mountain is a power image. While I tend to favor the tree as my mythic Axis Mundi and cosmic center for its organic qualities, the mountain is just as popular and is found in many Eastern traditions aligned with a specific holy mountain, such as the magickal Mount Meru and Mount Kailash. Due to the influence and diffusion of Quecha shamanic ideas from Peru, the concepts of building a spiritual relationship with your actual local mountains has grown in awareness and popularity. I’ve had quite a relationship with a fairly small Pact Monadnock here in New Hampshire and have had profound experiences with the Colorado Rockies and Mount Shasta in California.

Some use the mountain as a metaphor for the spiritual journey, while others will argue its validity. There are those who say we are all going up the same mountain on different paths. Others will vehemently disagree, arguing that the aims and forms of all religions are separate and different and cannot be equated.

I disagree, but the disagreement lies in defining what the mountain is for you. If you define the mountain as religion only, then I see your point. But as an occultist, not a religionist, I see the mountains as consciousness. It’s not just the consciousness of modern humans, or even all humans, but the consciousness of the Hermetic Divine Mind, in which all things participate. The mountain is the greater mystery, not of any one religion, but the unifying mystery of consciousness that superseded all human-invented religions.

It is like saying all sciences don’t have the same objective or study the same thing. Absolutely true in one way, yet they are all studying different aspects of one phenomenon, the universe. Chemistry has different parameters than physics and biology, but there is chemistry in the study of bodies and there is chemistry in the study of stars. Psychology as a science doesn’t have much active chemistry, but states of consciousness are informed by body and brain chemistry and detailed more in psychiatry even more chemistry and biology in the study of neurology. We can get even further afield into art, music, and politics, and while not overly ruled by chemistry or physics, there is interconnection and interdependence. These phenomena would not be possible without the others.

For the occultist, the mountain metaphor is the search for consciousness. The idea of different paths up it embodies not just different religions and traditions, the broad and straight paths, but the opportunity to be lost in the wilds between and find a new path, as well as simply cut your own. Some paths parallel each other for a bit, then diverge. Some paths are straight, while others bend or twist. They are all exploring the realm of consciousness.

The mountain implies we can make maps to share with current and future generations, leave markers on the trail, and vividly describe our experience in ways that others will both recognize, but which will also change over time as the terrain morphs.

The beauty of the metaphor is that it is both vertical and horizontal. There is implied progress forward and by ascent (or for some, descent) implying both time and initiatory experiences elevating consciousness. We reach peaks, find plateaus, and make permanent changes to ourselves.

Some people—and traditions—are stationary in the mountain. Such people remain static because they often don’t know they are on the mountain, or mistake a plateau or even valley for the summit. Many are resting, taking in the view, taking spiritual photos or making a painting. Some are going in circles around the mountain, perhaps remaining on one level or slowly ascending. Some are going the opposite direction of the mountain, and who are we to say they are wrong if they are happy with their path? And some are digging into the mountain seeking the interior of the earth, the secret stone, the alchemical fire and the Faery Queen! For the Witch, magician, alchemist and even Mason, the descent is as important as the climb.

The mountain is not really a mountain. The mountain is life, the universe seen and unseen, consciousness, cosmos, and the magickal mystery. During this Hexennacht season, make time to climb, run, skip, fly, dig, and camp out on the mountain. For the mountain is not really a mountain…and yet it is.

by Karin Ugander

It´s finally here, the second of the three Saturn – Uranus squares of 2021. We also have within the upcoming two weeks, the Summer Solstice and a full Moon. A big load of energy coming our way. So let´s take it from the beginning and see if we can find some way to navigate through these somewhat wild times.

Saturn and Uranus – alpha males

When Saturn and Uranus meet each other tension is unavoidable. It´s like having two male Alpha meeting in the same room. Everyone will notice the awkwardness, even thick skinned people who usually don´t notice anything that has to do with energies.  Saturn is like the old reliable uncle that you respect, for good reasons. He is hard, but fair and he gets things done. If he doesn’t like what you are doing he will tell you so, or probably fire you. Anyway, you will know what you are dealing with.

Uranus is in many ways his opposite. Uranus is the cool and exotic grandfather that you don´t know so much about, except from all the crazy stories that people tell about him. It´s hard to know how much about them that is true. You probably don´t know if he likes you or not, or anyone else either. He lives his life up in the sky and the times when you meet him, he feels very distant and unattached.  Like Saturn he also gets things done, but nobody knows if it was intentional or not. Was it planned or mere chance? Was the chaos that followed his footsteps part of a greater plan, or did he just like to watch it happen?

Old versus New

When Saturn and Uranus meet we are thorn between them. Should I go with the known and reliable (Saturn)? Or should I go with the new and unknown (Uranus)? Should I follow tradition and the old rules (Saturn)? Or should I join the revolution and tear the old apart (Uranus)?

When we have challenging aspects between planets, especially oppositions (180 degrees apart) or squares (90 degrees apart) we definitely feel like we have to choose between them, but… that is not necessarily the case, surprisingly.

Now back to the Alpha Males in the room. Saturn says “ No way that you can spend time with me if you are listening to him!” Pointing towards Uranus. “He is unreliable, and unfaithful! With him you will never feel peace and sleep well at night, like you will do in My company. You have to choose between us.”

“ Ha, says Uranus.”  “Listen to him and you will die slowly inside and start to decay long before your days are over. There will be no sunshine or adventure in your life.” “With me, you will live like there is no tomorrow. You will shine and life will be electric, even if short lived” (Uranus rules electricity)

The trick or great illusion is that you can choose both of them. It´s not easy, but when you get the balance between them, an enormous amount of energy can be shaped and directed in your life. People who are born with challenging aspect between Saturn and Uranus meet challenges early in their lives, but after around the age of 40, they usually have become very powerful people. They know how to embrace the new without losing themselves or their core values. They know how to both give and take a tackle and they know how to grow with life’s challenges. I´m not so found of the saying ”What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” but in the case of Saturn meeting Uranus, it does apply.

In waves of 3

During 2021 we will have three times when Saturn and Uranus Squares each other. At those times we will all feel the tension created. For people born with more complex aspects in their astrological birth chart, it will not feel like the end of the world. But for someone who is not used to feeling inner and outer pressure this can be felt very strong.

The first square was 17th of February 2021, (Saturn at 7 deg in Aquarius, Uranus at 7 deg in Taurus)

The second 14th of June, (Saturn at 13 deg in Aquarius, Uranus at 13 deg in Taurus)

The third 24th of December ( Saturn at 11 deg I Aquarius, Uranus at 11 deg in Taurus)

Even if the squares are  exact at 3 times we will feel the energy from this transit the whole year of 2021.

Getting a higher perspective

Uranus is a non-personal planet. He does not care so much about our personal problems or our day to day lives. But for his defence, he is good at bringing a higher perspective. And right now he has some goddesses, friends and allies in the sky that can help us to navigate in these wild times.

New ways of finding Nourishment

Right now the asteroid Goddess Ceres is right next to Uranus in Taurus. There she can help us to find nourishment in new ways. Ceres is linked to food and when she meets Uranus unexpected things can happen. You may even become allergic to some food. Perhaps you can´t eat  or drink what you used to before. Instead of focusing on what you have to give up, focus on new exiting food and drinks to discover. Dive into the shelves of herbal tea and find new healthy food to cook. Ceres is also linked to how we replenish ourselves. Don´t be surprised if your old favourite Tv- series doesn’t make you as happy anymore. Instead of hanging on to it, try to find joy in discovering something new.

Ceres is Conjunct Uranus until the 2nd of July.

Aphrodite, Isis and downloads of energy

Uranus is also making an interesting positive aspect (sextile) to Venus (love, magick, divine feminine) in the sign of Cancer (love, family, water). And most exiting is that Venus is right now located at 14 degrees which is where the fix star Sirius is located. The Egyptians called the star Sirius for Sirius Isis and connected the star to their Goddess Isis. In Egyptian mythology Isis is the Great Mother and goddess of healing and magick.

With Venus meeting up with Sirius we have a lot of feminine and deeply  magical energies available to us. Both Uranus and Sirius are connected to energetical downloads of energy. If you are sensitive to higher frequencies of energy or have a strong connection to ancient Egypt or Magic you will probably feel this. Energy downloads can create headache, feeling dizzy, strong waves of heat or cold, even flue like symptoms. If this happens to you slow down and ground yourself. Drink lots of water and allow the energy to flow through you.

The Venus Sirius connection is until around the 17th of June.

Honouring the sacred feminine

Adding to this strong feminine energy we also have the asteroid goddess Vesta  (devotion, protection, priestess)  at 16 deg in Virgo, making a trine to Uranus and a sextile (both good aspects) to Venus and Sirius. A really strong and magical feminine alliance. It is a perfect time for ceremonies dedicated to the sacred Feminine. This energy goes really deep and really high, like a sacred pillar connecting the different planes. If you are connecting to the deeply feminine energies in this passage and feel overwhelmed, you can ask your higher self to create space in your dream body. Another name for Sirius is the Dog star. The animal totem of Wolf or Dog can also assist you in this healing and download.

The Vesta Sirius connection is until around the 18th of June. The Vesta Venus connection is until around the 20th of June. The Ceres Sirius connection is until around the 27th of June.

Other dates of importance

20th of June Summer Solstice.  Sun enters the sign of Cancer. In Sweden Sommarsolståndet 21 juni.

22nd of June – Mercury goes direct.

24th of June – Full moon in Capricorn. This will be a strong full moon. It is the first full moon after the Solar eclipse on the 10th of June and it is only a few days after the Summer Solstice.

25th of June- Neptune goes retrograde. In Sweden Midsummer celebrations.

27th of June – Venus enters into the sign of Leo

Even if the Saturn Uranus square is challenging and creates tension, we have a lot of assisting energies surrounding us. Even the smallest things or acts of goodness can make a big difference in the end. We and our physical bodies are constantly bombarded with energies and frequencies and there´s nothing we can do about that. But we can choose what frequencies we tune into and choose to amplify. During this passage that choice will be more important than usual.

Can someone or something be so vile that the very Earth rejects it? Can someone be so corrupt that the spirit world will not accept them? The idea that this can be so is found throughout folklore. Pure water rejects the dunked Witch. Holy ground repels the monster. This paradigm presented itself again recently, as it tends to do when someone whose actions are poisonous and treacherous dies, but I’m not sure how true it is.

For those abused, it’s consoling to think of the evil doer being rejected in the afterlife, doomed to wander without rest. Yet it’s not unlike the fundamentalist view of the non-Christian tormented in hell. The eternal punishment of the Christians was more of an alchemical purification for the Zoroastrians, with everyone eventually going to paradise after purification. So what does the Witch believe?

We often state we believe in no hell. We believe in no Christian Devil. The occultist might conceive of an astral hell—you get whatever you imagine and expect until you figure out how to get beyond your expectations.

Most of us were not taught a segmented afterlife, though we see some evidence of that in the ancient mystery schools and Norse myth. For the Norse, the hero who died in battle, the one chosen by the Valkyries, gets a paradise. Those without honor, thieves and murderers and their ilk, get someplace much less hospitable, worse than those who die average deaths from illness and age.

In ancient Egypt, if the heart was not lighter than a feather, you would be devoured and annihilated, though we do not know if that judgment was reserved  for kings in their mystery cults or enforced for everyone. The Greeks separated Tartarus, Hades, Elysium, and the Fortunate Isles, and initiates of the mysteries gained a map.

So what happens when someone who doesn’t live by any of their self-described Christian morals—or even common decency at all, like Rush Limbaugh—dies? I’ve seen assumptions from magickal practitioners that such a person will wander as a hungry specter, rejected by the ancestral spirits as too vile. I’m not sure that’s true. Isn’t that nothing more than our human assumptions operating in a non-human world?

What does the Earth do? Does it reject anything? In the highest mysteries of the dark goddess, does she turn away the dead? No, the goddess accepts it all, including the shit. She accepts all things and breaks down things that resist breaking down. Even plastic will eventually decay. The layers of heaven and hell, overworlds and underworlds, spin in a great centrifuge, and everything finds its level. As it purifies, it may move on, or it may stay. Even if the spirits do reject something, over time, everything finds its level and moves in a new stream. The earth is an alchemical lab, continuing to purify and refine all things into new forms. The spirit worlds must have parallel processes.

In a three-soul view of consciousness, there is a higher part of us that is incorruptible. Those who are corrupted are completely out of touch with it due to their actions in this life and in the past. The higher soul can only do so much. It will go on in its global incarnations, hopefully with a better future connected to the next personal self. The human personal part of us doesn’t survive one life and decays with the bodily remains. Unsettled echoes can haunt us here on Earth, but they too eventually decay without a source of sustenance. The ancestral self is often corrupted and needs to be purified. While it’s possible this process is not an easy one, as blood soil descends to the pools of ancestral wisdom, like oil and water, eventually blood knows blood. Future descendants will inherit these tangled patterns and help heal the collective.

There is a transition to a different worldview when we leave this world. I can’t say I know what it is for sure, but I know its perspective is different, much wider than our own. While I can revile the actions of the living and the dead, and even revile the personality, I can also hope for healing and different choices in the next life.
